About Us
Our mission is to help keep the conversation about LGBTQIA+ rights going. And if someone tries to stop us, we’ll BUTT-IN and make our voices heard.
BUTT-IN is a collection of reimagined, vintage protest buttons in a rainbow of colorful designs. Each pin draws inspiration from a button worn during critical moments in the LGBTQIA+ Community’s fight for equality.
Continuing the impact made during the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s, protest buttons were a popular form of political expression and activism during the LGBTQIA+ Rights Movement. In the 1960s, buttons were often created with slogans and symbols expressing support for LGBTQIA+ rights, such as “Gay is Beautiful” and the pink triangle symbol. These small, inexpensive items carried powerful messages.
Activists and supporters wore them to show solidarity with various causes. The slogans on many buttons feature controversial words, reclaiming the terms and using the button to promote pro-LGBTQIA+ causes, pushing for greater inclusivity and recognition.
Protest buttons continue to be used as a form of political expression and activism today, including by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. These buttons can be found at demonstrations and rallies, online stores, and other venues where activists gather to promote their causes.
Our Pledge
In recognition of the generations before ours that paved the path towards equality through protest, we are donating 10% of our profit to SAGE. Sage has provided services and advocated for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender elders since 1978. They're America's oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of queer or questioning older people, focusing on the issue of LGBTQ+ aging.
